DOSSIER NO 20. "GOTHA BATS" by J. Miranda & P. Mercado |
Reviewed By Paul Mahoney, #8943 |
MSRP: $32.00 USD This is the first of the Reichdreams Dossiers I have had the opportunity to read, but I imagine they all follow a similar format. This one specifically covers the Gotha ‘Bat’ type aircraft – various versions of the Gotha P.60. It has 56 pages, all in black and white, with full-color covers. It is a typical small-press type booklet, with reasonably high-quality (but non-gloss) paper stock and glossy covers. The authors jump right in to their first topic, with no introduction or table of contents. Since this volume is relatively short, I don’t see this as a major problem, but without a table of contents (or index) it might take a little longer to look up a particular variant. Each aircraft is covered in only a few pages, but what is there is well-detailed with a history of the development (or planned development), and includes a 1/72 set of plans for each type. The plans also have cutaways to show a great deal of interior detail. Towards the end there are also several 1/24 scale cutaways showing some armament, engine, and interior details. All the hypothetical variants of the P.60 are covered, including day-fighters, night-fighters, and destroyers. In addition to coverage of each aircraft, there are several separate sections dedicated to ejection seats, armament, and radar systems. Finally, there is a three-page story of a hypothetical combat mission. The back cover has 2 full-color profiles of ‘what-if’ operational paint schemes on P.60s. I have yet to get involved in the Luft’46 projects, as I have a serious backlog of other kits waiting to be built. Despite this, if I were to break out into the ‘what-if’ category, I would definitely look into this and other Reichdreams booklets. |
