Jerry and Brett have done a nice job in putting this book together.  The authors are well known in the modeling community and this title is up to their normal standards.  The wide range of modeling subjects in this new hardcover book from the Osprey Masterclass series is staggering.  Every type of USAAF aircraft is discussed from the A-36 Apache to Spitfires to P-70 Night Fighters in every scale.

The text is well written with beautiful full color photos from cover to cover.  This book is a good reference guide for modeling techniques and tips, including washes, pastels and oils.  The techniques used to produce the excellent models are actually incorporated in the photos and captions.  This makes locating a particular technique easy.  The actual text is devoted mostly to the diversity of the subject and modeling philosophy.  Build ups of the Eduard P-39, Tamiya P-47D Razorback and AMTech P-40F are included.  These contain valuable hints on each model’s construction, especially the P-40F.  At the end of the book is a section of excellent models built by some great modelers, including Chris Wauchop.  A color suggestion chart for ordnance carried by the fighters and some nice reference pages are at the end of the book.  As a general overview of USAAF fighters this book is a valuable tool.

Recommended.
