MSRP $29.95 USD Wow! Jay Miller, the well known aviation author, has outdone himself this time with this monograph. I have several of his books in my library, and this has to be the best one yet. One hundred twenty-eight pages with over two hundred seventy-five color photos, including a full-page picture of the instrument panel with several more detail pictures of the cockpit for the super-detailers out there. You’ll also find over forty B&W photos along with about thirty detail drawings and flow charts. This is an 8½ X 11” softbound book, typical of the Aerofax stable. In it you will find a detailed history of the competition between the Lockheed Martin F/A-22 and the Northrop F-23. Jay explains many of the problems encountered along the way in the design but as this is a new weapons system there is a lot that is classified and therefore can’t be described in detail. He documents the various flights taken by both of the YF-22A’s year by year and changes and correction made to the aircraft during testing. He describes the accident of April 25, 1992 and how the aircraft was rebuilt; never flying again but used in several other ground test programs. The Lockheed Martin F/A-22 Raptor book can be obtained for $29.95 directly from Specialty Press by calling 1-800-895-4585, or by visiting www.specialtypress.com. A $4.95 shipping and handling charge is added to each order. My thanks to Karin Hill at Specialty Press, IPMS/USA and John Noack for the review copy. |
