My name is Paul Hartman and I reside in the Netherlands in the village of Leusden. That's close to Soesterberg AFB where once 32nd FIS was on active duty. I watched 32nd as a kid and was very impressed by the roar and thunder of the mighty F100's. That's 50 years ago now and in the meantime I've become an IPMS member in 1990. I've held a lifetime fascination with the Super Sabre and recently I ran into Trumpeters's giant in 1/32nd scale.
The kit is built straight out of the box, with minor improvements on some incorrect features. I didn't use the white metal undercarriage but used the plastic parts which I found out to be more detailed. One thing I chose not to modify is the well-discussed "sit" of the model. More "nose-up' appearance would have required too much surgery on the undercarriage. Overall, the kit has been an easy build. When you choose for a non-detachable rear fuselage, you can save a lot of time by not having to detail the jet engine.
I sprayed the model with Humbrol Metalcote, it's not receptive to fingerprints and doesn't need any sealing. Various metal shades were achieved by using Bare Metail foil, which I sprayed in advance in different tones. That saves a lot of masking time. The discoloured exhaust area was done by drybrushing metallic blue and orange over a steel background.
I used aftermarket decals for a UK Bentwaters AFB aircraft, 1964.
