Fellow IPMS/USA Members

This week I accepted the resignation of Len Pilhofer from the Second Vice President position, and Rob Booth from the Secretary role.  Each left for their own (and different) reasons and I will respect their decisions to do so.  We have begun the process of finding and appointing replacement officers to fill these two roles for the remainder of the term and as a member you should see an email inviting you to indicate your interest in being considered.  In the short term, I have asked John Noack to temporarily fill the Secretary position (in addition to his 1VP duties) as we start that search.

The fact that the Board is in some degree of transition may be a subject of speculation, but I want to assure you that IPMS/USA remains solid...

First Discussion Item – The Editorial by Chris Bucholtz in the Sep/Oct Journal

After significant discussion, it was agreed by vote of 5 to 2 that the Editor has a right to offer his own opinions (the definition of an editorial) and that no further action would be taken.  PP agreed to respond directly to those who had written in voicing their concerns over the editorial as published.  The Board's reasoning was based on the fact that Chris’ opinion was based on what he observed on the IPMS/USA Facebook page.  In fact, his suggestions as to how this should have been handled were really close to how it...

Ralph Forehand (1932-2022) was a long time IPMS-USA member (member #1592) and he formed many lifelong friendships during his many years with IPMS.

As a former high school dropout, he enrolled in the Air Force and served as a flight line mechanic at Laughlin Airforce Base during the Korean War. During his service, he worked to attain his GED and then after serving he first attained an Associate Radio Engineer degree, and eventually a BS in Industrial Engineering from Virginia Tech. He strongly believed in the benefits of a higher education.

He served IPMS in several key roles:

  • Historian / Publications Director 1968-1970
  • Update Editor 1968-1971
  • First Vice President 1970-1972
  • Webmaster 1996-2002
  • Named as Life Member 2016...

As you probably know, IPMS/USA is a volunteer based organization. All of our Executive Board members, Regional Coordinators, Webmasters, and Convention Chairs and teams are volunteers. We often hear from members that they want to be more involved in the Society and help improve it. This is your chance to be a part of the future of IPMS/USA and make it better for everyone!

The only compensation package offered is knowing that as part of an all-volunteer organization and leadership team, you are helping to grow the IPMS/USA footprint and reach out across multiple generations of current and future members.

As IPMS continues to explore the use of social media to expand our outreach to new and existing members, we have identified a number of new volunteer opportunities in...

To replace me in my previous position I nominated John Noack to once again take on the responsibilities of the First Vice President.  He accepted and the Eboard approved his appointment.

I want to thank thank Dave for his time and efforts on the Eboard and look forward to seeing him in Madison next year.  I hope to see many of you there as well.

If you have questions or concerns, please email me at IPMSPresident@ipmsusa.org.

While I didn't run for this position...

Effective Oct 31st, I will be resigning as president of IPMS/USA.  While this has been a difficult decision for me, I have though on this for a while and feel it would be best for myself and IPMS/USA.  While I have thoroughly enjoyed most of the past two years.  There have been situations out of my control and others where I should have displayed more control.  Perhaps my leadership skills are not what is needed now.

My days of tilting at windmills are over and I’m looking forward to getting back to the joy of building models.

I cannot thank you all enough for the support you’ve given me over these past two years.  There will be lots of exciting things happening at IPMS/USA.  I will still be a proud member and be around, just not...
