Lesson Plan - Class #3 |
|
Alignment and Seam Filling |
|
Continuing Fabrication and Painting |
|
1. Now that you have rechecked all the seams at the
glue joints for gaps and other imperfections of the assembled
model at this point, reapply putty as needed and sand smooth
prior to painting. |
|
2. Wash the model to remove any sanding dust and oils
from your hands. |
|
3. Prior to painting you must cover the exposed
cockpit, wing wheel wells and tail wheel in preparation for
painting. There are several methods including the use of low
tack painter’s masking tape or moistened toilet tissue. |
|
4. Using the airbrush paint the model with primer paint
and let dry for a minimum of one half hour. Now check the
model closely for any imperfections such as rough sanding
scratches, sunken seams, or ejection pin marks and reapply
putty as needed. After making the necessary corrections wash
the model and reapply primer to repaired areas and let dry.
|
|
5. Using the airbrush, you are now ready to apply the
finish color to the completed model and all the component
parts requiring this finish color which faces the outside of
the model. This includes P/N’s A14, (Antenna Mast) A16, (Pitot
Tube), B29, (Oil cooler) B32 (Small landing gear doors) (2
each), B40, B41, (Medium landing gear door) B42, (Tail wheel),
B47, B48, (Large landing gear doors) and the drop tank and set
aside to dry. Brush paint the following P/N’s A23 (2 each),
(Exhaust pipes) and B34 (Cockpit head rest) Dark Brown and set
aside to dry. |
|
6. Brush paint P/N’s A17, (Gun sight) Black, A18 (2
each) (Hinge covers) Black, A22, (Gear case) Gray, B31, (Loop
antenna) Gray, B33 (2 each) (Mass balances) Black, B37, B38,
(Main landing gear wheels) and the B42 (Tail wheel) Dark gray
and set aside to dry. |
|
7. Do not handle the model as any finger prints will be
visible when applying the clear gloss and flat coats used in
the application of the decals |
Homework:
Mask the remainder of the canopy framework using the supplied
thin pre cut strips of masking tape and bring to the next
class for final painting. See the sample canopy |
