Introduction

IPMS/USA has long encouraged young modelers to get into the hobby through its Make N' Take program. That program is now augmented by the Adult Building Course, more commonly known as the A.B.C's of Modeling course. The ABC course has a proven track record of success in the clubs that have implemented it in Texas and Florida. Graduates have joined the local clubs, joined IPMS, and even become officers providing new and fresh leadership that many clubs find desirable.

IPMS/USA works through a national coordinator to administer the program to direct the program and consult with the local chapters regarding successful implementation. That national coordinator is Tony Ivone of IPMS Ocala. Local Chapter Points of Contact (POC) will contact the National Coordinator and the Regional Coordinators, advising them that a course has been implemented and provide updates on its progress.

Local Chapters

Local Chapters are absolutely critical to the overall success of this program and it is the local chapter that will reap the benefits of this program. Local leadership must locate and schedule a classroom suitable to administer the course, advertise the course at various locations, hobby shops, community rooms, churches, and local media. Course instructors must be experienced IPMS/USA model builders and must have good interpersonal and communication skills to present this course and make a positive first impression with students Cost of the Standard Teaching Package will be determined by the local chapter.

The local club will provide all the “Common Use” items necessary for the completion of the model beyond the Standard Teaching Package and be expected to reference and implement this handbook for beginning guidance for the student. Any planned deviation form the program must be discussed with and approved by the National Coordinator before implementation
